Golf Golf Golf, What else?

Golf is a game of class and elegance. Initially golf was played at Bruntsfield Links in Edinburgh, Scotland, in AD 1456. It was a sport of the royals and high-class society. Gradually, the modern game of golf spread from Scotland to England and has now become a worldwide game, with golf courses in almost all the countries.

Golf is one of the few ball games that do not use a standardized playing area. It is played on a long stretch of land that is commonly known as golf “courses”. In a golf course, you will find either 9 or 18 holes designed in a typical style. With such world famous golf player like Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, the sport is becoming all the more famous and attractive.

There are some alternative ways to play golf that has been gradually introduced such as miniature golf, sholf and disc golf. Golf has increasingly become a spectator game, with several different levels of professional and amateur tours in various parts of the world. Such professional golfers like Jack Nicklaus, Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam have become well recognized sports figures in the world. Golf has also found a place in the Olympics Games.

In USA, there is the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. It is regarded as the second largest working sports organization in the world with more than 28,000 golfing members. The PGA or Professional Golfers’ Association has taken up the job of teaching young people how to play golf. There are many well known golf clubs attached with PGA. The organization also arranges many golf tournaments in and around USA. There is also a separate organization for female professional golfers in America.
